Acts of Kindness…

by on Jan.16, 2011, under Photography

I just had to share this story because, well, it just restores my faith in the world.

I also just wanted to say God Bless Southwest Airlines for the caliber of pilots and employees they have on their staff.

Imagine being a greiving grandfather trying to catch a flight to see your grandson one last time. The line getting through security is stupidly long and you fear there is no way you are going to make your flight.

I don’t want to ruin the story so I’ll place the link here for you all. I just had to share this with you because of what this pilot did!

Flying Machines…

by on Sep.06, 2010, under Photography

I’ve noticed that most of the aircraft around our municipal airport are squeeky clean. I’ve thought about how a 1959 Beechcraft K35 could look as good as it did in the showroom over 50 years ago.

And yet, when I see a slightly newer, (1980ish), Canadair CL-600 tucked away in a corner between two buildings – seemingly neglected, it saddens me.

I wonder if it’s down for repairs. Or maybe just being stored. Even worse maybe a toy that’s been cast aside for something better. (My kids do that – Get them the latest and greatest Christmas gift and 3 weeks later it’s forgotten.)

Planes are extremely expensive to purchase and maintain. Hard to believe this work of art is just sitting here. Just making me think, I guess.

Still Dreaming…

by on Mar.12, 2010, under Photography

I still dream of flying one day. Every time I get close something else happens. For now I’ll just photograph the objects of my dreams.

I just really wish I could spend more time “up there”.

I’ve taken a ‘discovery’ flight or two. The adrenalin rush lasts for weeks. I just need to figure out how to get money to learn the rest of it and get a license.

I’m off to work now. I’ll keep dreaming.

Airports…

by on Jan.03, 2010, under Photography

I love aircraft and airports. I love flying. I love watching them. Almost like watching birds just twice as noisey.  I like trucks also – but I have to tell you I have a TON of respect for anyone that can guide a 747 around a taxiway.

Technology is amazing. How something that big can even fly. I sat and watched the hussle and bussle for quite awhile.

At DFW Founder’s Plaza people come to plane spot, take their kids to watch airplanes, hang out, and listen to Air Traffice Control.  I had a great day picking up my nephew and stopping by Founders Plaza and watching the comings and goings.

The aircraft seemed to be mostly American Airlines (After all, Dallas is their major hub), but occasionally you’d catch a Mexicana Airbus or other airline from around the world.

I wish I could have stayed there much longer. Next time I have the gas and time I may just spend a whole day there just to see what I can see.

It may seem boring to most. But I’ve always dremt of flying. Someday I will. I’m still saving to try and get a private pilot’s license.

Aluminum Overcast…

by on Nov.14, 2009, under Blog, Photography

I love living near our municipal airport here in Georgetown, Texas. I get to see some interesting sights. Actually, interesting aircraft.

I have become a fan of Aluminum Overcast. A flying piece of history in the form of a B-17G with four 1,200 hp radial engines that sounds like a thousand Harley Davidson’s thundering down the road when she flies over.

You can actually take a flight on this wonderful piece of history or you can take a tour of the aircraft. The most information can be found at the official website http://www.b17.org

Check out their website and appearance schedule and take a flight on a piece of history. Learn what it was like for the men of WWII. Quite an awe inspiring experience. I have other photographs on my facebook page as well (Aircraft Photos).Thank you for stopping by and God Bless.

Peace, Love, and Happy Flying,
