Hill Country Beauty…
I love the Texas hill country and the quiet that comes with going off the beaten path (or paved highway). I guess by ‘highway’ I mean Interstate, but out and down Farm to Market roads there is alot to be seen – especially around the Guadalupe river.
There are places you could go and sit for hours and watch the river and listen to…well; nothing actually. Just the wind, birds, and bugs and watch the reflections in the water dance around.
I miss the quiet where you can hear nothing but the sound of the water rushing over the rocks. No iPods, traffic noise, sirens or hustle and bustle. Just wind and water.
Heave a big sigh as the weekend is over and it’s time to finish the morning coffee and run off to work and earn some gas money for my next little excursion with the camera.
Thank you for stopping by I sincerely appreciate it. Take care of yourselves and find that place where you can go and be quiet for awhile.
Peace, Love, and…well, PEACE,
Artist -vs- Creep…
I’ve been pretty self concious about my weight and my back lately. I suffer from a slipped disc and chronic back pain and my gut isn’t helping. So I have been going hiking quite a bit with my camera. Today, around Lake Georgetown.
Lord it was hot but I wanted to burn off some steam and relax with my trusty camera.
Little did I know that the times have changed. You cannot go walking around the lake with a camera without someone saying something.
I was walking back to my truck; dripping with sweat and thinking I must have lost at least a whole pound when some teenagers that had just passed me turned and started yelling at me. They were say F*** You! and Pervert! and Don’t you take any pictures of me!
I was dumb founded and hadn’t a clue what they were talking about and it rather hurt my feelings a bit.
I hollard that they were mistaken and they yelled something incoherant back. So I hollard for them to not be so full of themselves and I had better things to do.
About then a car drove up the hill and the lady in that car yelled “Pervert!”
Well, here are the photos I took today. No “teens” here. I was torn about taking them a business card and showing them my work but I felt the situation was already Stupid and I was sweating so badly I thought I better get something to drink first. Not the Bud Light pictured here, though. (Ashame folks have to litter the lake)
It’s ashame that it used to be a gentleman with a camera was thought to be an artist – but you can’t go walking around with a camera without someone thinking you’re a pervert or something.
I guess they were just kids or something and maybe I shouldn’t let it bother me, but it did for awhile. At least I know who I am.
Peace, Love, and Scenery,
Austin, Texas…
I really love Austin, Texas, especially downtown. It’s picturesque and the people are amazing! I have to say that the city has its own ‘vibe’.
They’ve just completed the Austonian in downtown which is now the tallest building in Austin. I wonder if they let folks up on the top to take pictures or if you have to live there?
My favorite building is usually the Frost Bank Tower. I guess because it’s shiney – reflects the light well. Looks like an ‘owl’ sometimes. I haven’t placed my finger on it but I’ve sure taken alot of photographs of it.
Some photographs I play with in Photoshop or paint shop pro. I think I found a tutorial on turning photographs in to paintings such as this, but I’ve since forgotten where and how to do it.
Austin when the sun goes down is another story. So much to do, see, taste, smell. There’s music everywhere down 6th street and it’s just so ‘alive’ and beautiful.
I guess you can see why I love this area so much. It’s interesting, weird, beautiful, musical and just makes me feel like I’m at home. Thanks for stopping by again!

Pride in Workmanship…
You know? There is alot of awesome architecture around Austin, Texas and what I guess you would call the “I-35 Corridor. But take a closer look at the photograph below.
When I saw this all I could say was “Really?”… I wonder what happened. Either the shorter people called in sick or maybe a shift in the earth’s crust?
I understand there is a fine line to what can be considered ‘artistic license’ – is that what that is?
Can you imagine running down this fire escape with a railing like that?
And I wonder if the guys were a little tired one day laying brick what these windows may look like?
And lastley I don’t think the train would last very long if these tracks were laid out like that railing, right?
Take pride in what you do. Be the best you can be. Take the time, ALL of the time, to do it right the first time. Just something I saw that made me think.

Favorite Things…
I know I’m behind but boy can life get busy sometimes. Of course I was struggling with what I could possibly write about and then I remembered an impulse I had.
I was in Starbucks (rarely but I treat myself once in awhile) and I saw this coffee cup.
I had to have this coffee cup. I literally saw myself relaxing with my photographs drinking coffee out of this coffee cup.
It was large enough – it said “Austin Starbucks Coffee” on it and had a guitar player on it.
All things I love. Coffee, music, and Austin.
I didn’t NEED this coffee cup. But I had to HAVE this coffee cup.
Does it make the coffee taste better? Maybe not, but makes it feel better somehow I guess. I wonder if anyone else has this ‘impulse’ or a favorite thing that they absolutely have to have around that somehow makes us feel better?
Surround yourself with good things and good people and life will be good.

Stevie Ray Vaughn…
It’s been over 20 years? August 27, 1990 Guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughn passed away in a helicopter crash. He was only 35. His legend lives on in downtown Austin, Texas with a statue in his honor located at Auditorium Shores.
When in Austin take a stroll around Auditorium Shores. It’s a beautiful park with lots to see near beautiful downtown Austin.
Stevie Ray Vaughn keeps a watchful eye over downtown Austin.
Peace, Love, and Rhythm and Blues,

Old Cars…
I like old cars. I see them in fields and on the side of the highway. Some are rather nostalgic looking.
From a photography stand point I love stumbling upon these seeming works of art – but is it ‘junk’? Litter? Or is it an eyesore to some? I don’t know. I found this speciman to be rather colorful. Enjoy.
Peace, Love and Salvage,

Photography as Art…
Do not concern yourself with the questions, “What is art?” or “Who is an artist?” Everything is art. If what you see and do comes from your heart, you are an artist. – Anonymous

Simple quote that inspires me to look around and take photographs that make me feel good.

Storm Victim…
Well. Seems like the storm the other night got another victim. It happens more often than you think when you leave your computer on all night without the benefit a UPS (Uninterupted Power Supply). Powerstrips don’t always protect as they should and hard drives can still be damaged by not being shut down properly.

I tried everything with this one. Once it was determined the system would not boot, I reformatted it and ran some other tools on it. It appeared to start working, however errors started occuring – data got screwey – and more bad sectors turned up.
I couldn’t trust it with data anymore so now I have this beautiful shiny hard drive, paperweight – actually I thought that “Lady Geeks” could use it as a make up mirror because it’s so clear.
I wonder if a craftsman could make me a “Geek Clock” or something like that. I already blogged about the magnet (the brass colored section in the lower left of the hard drive) that is very strong.
For now I’ll just pose the hard disk on my desk and record its image for posterity.
Peace, Love, and Rest In Digital Peace,

I guess the best quote I ever heard as it pertains to photography is:
“Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.”- David Alan Harvey”.
I couldn’t have said it better because I was very happy when this hummingbird came along. And even happier when I saw that my trusty camera stopped his little wings.
Peace, Love, and Birds & Bees,

Magic Hands…
Magic hands that touch the strings to make the sounds that stir the soul to write and fill the world with music. I have such wonderful friends that have taught me so much. For that I’m truly thankful. Life just wouldn’t be life without being able to play and make music with my friends.
