Bugs and Things…
by Bob-O on Jan.29, 2011, under Photography
I think it’s awesome to get a good picture of a bug. They’re challenging, for the most part, especially the flying insects.
I’ve already blogged a bit about bees and I hate to be repetitious but here are some of my favorites although some aren’t really artistic or anything, they’re bugs after all.
I found this tiny guy sitting down to a snack on one of our flowers in the back yard. He’s tiny and would sit happily on the tip of a ballpoint pen but lookes much larger due the 250mm lens I used.
Dragonflies are another favorite though they’re very quick and shy. I saw a patch that dragon flies were going in and out of and just sat there for awhile and sure enough one came along and planted itself in just the right spot!
Butterflies are also shy and flit around quite a bit. I find them challenging as well. Though sometimes all you have to do is offer them a good drink and….
I guess there must be something natural in Natural Ice because the butterfly really liked it.
Spiders are another fun insect to capture though I am intimidated by getting bit by them.
In Louisiana we had cochroaches – In central Texas we have THESE things that I believe probably might eat them which brings me to this multi-eyed spider that enjoyed the camera TOO much.
Then I found out about grasshoppers. I was chasing this guy around the yard and after I uploaded the photos to the computer I discovered it appeared he was smiling broader than a beer pitcher.
Then there are the bugs that you have no clue what they are – they just look, well, weird!
I could go on quite a bit about bugs as I have quite a few shots of different dragonflies and things. I may post the more interesting shots later. I enjoy photography and I’m working on PEOPLE for once so maybe I’ll be able to branch out a little more.
Thank you for stopping by and taking a break. Hope you enjoyed it and that I didn’t creep anyone out with the bugs.

Has Its Thorn…
by Bob-O on Jan.28, 2011, under Photography
I believe since I made the post with the giant thorns from the rose bush I decided to post my favorite from when the bush was blooming one cloudy, rainy morning.
Somehow makes the pain of being stuck a little worth it when you see this bush bloom.
While crawling around the gardern I spied some things you may not want in your flower bed. I like bugs as well and will do a post on them soon – but this little guy wasn’t bashful about eating my plants. Even seemed to look at me like “Whud do YOU want?”
So I did what every concerned gardner would do. I took his picture and then did the “Twitch- SEE YA!” thing being ever so careful not to damage the flower.
You have to love roses. They’re soft, velvety, and smell so good. They also make the ladies smile!
So keep the flowers blooming and the ladies happy. Also, thank you for stopping by!

The Little Things…
by Bob-O on Jan.07, 2011, under Photography
Thanks to the Blogging Challenge I got a chance to learn some amazing things. Also how important the little things are.
Nature is a wonderful thing and alot of us take it for granted. And if you have animals it’s your responsibility to take care of them.
Which brings me to an insect that fascinates, yet scares me to death sometimes (allergies, you know).
Yes. BEES! They are so important to keeping things going and actually fun to watch (as long as you have a long lens and stand perfectly still).
They make honey and keep everything growing and I have to tell you about a wonderful place with wonderful stuff here in a minute.
I didn’t take these photographs today, necessarily but they are a couple of favorites that illustrate how these wonderful bugs work – going from flower to flower pollenating everything. Also I wanted to tell you about Queen Bee Gardens and some thing I learned yesterday regarding the Bee Biz.
Queen Bee Gardens makes candy in Wyoming and I found they use honey from bees. It’s facinating and I learned that when it’s cold in Wyoming, the Bees get an all expense paid vacation to California during the Winter months. That is what I call taking care of your animals!
You simply have to visit their site and read this post about bees being trucked to California. Fascinating stuff!

Learn to Be Still…
by Bob-O on Jan.01, 2011, under Photography
I was walking back in to my office after lunch and just happened to look up at the sky. Right about then a breeze came up and whispered “slow down”.
I then began to try and remember the last time I went walking or just sat in the grass and just wondered. I remember being young and looking up at the clouds, just watching, for hours. Not really thinking of anything. I miss those carefree days. I also miss just walking around away from all of the noise.
It’s good to relax and just ‘take it all in’. I feel as though I’ve let that get away from me or that somehow I’ve forgotten how important it is to notice the little things.
Like that grasshopper on the fence post that is watching me ever so closely to make sure I don’t give him a bad day.
That was a restfull day. Going down this country road admiring the fall colors. Then looking down to find that grasshopper staring at me. I guess that’s what I mean by really looking around at what’s going on around you.
I can’t remember the last time I just looked around, or stopped and looked at the sky and just emptied my head – or looked up at the stars and took the time to admire the beauty of it all.
Life has gotten so busy. I think that for this new year, 2011, I’ve made a resolution to take the time to Learn to be STILL. Actually there is an Eagles song by that title I haven’t heard in awhile…I think I’ll dig it out. I’ve heard that “Rushing” can kill you anyway so I figure it will be good for me.
I’m going to stop, and rest, and take the time to admire the world around me and the people I love and not be so ‘worked’ and ‘rushed’.
Well I’m hoping that I post more often to my ‘Blahg” here as that can be relaxing as well. I thank everyone who stops by to take a peek and hope you enjoy your time here and most of all have a Blessed and Prosperous New Year!.
Peace, Love, and Stillness,

I love dragonflies. There are so many varieties and they are so photogenic. They also eat alot of mosquitos.

There are 5,000 different species of Dragonfly (Odonata) with 450 different species in North America and a good website to visit regarding dragonflies would be the Digital Dragonfly Museum

Dragonflies and damselflies are fun to watch (If you like bugs I guess) and I know people who collect them. I mean, some folks have everything cat everywhere and some collect everything elephant – and some collect dragonflies. Pictures, coffee mugs, placemats, T-shirts. Interesting decorating idea.
Me? I take photographs of everything so I guess I’ll move on down the trail and see what I can see.
Peace, Love, and Happy Hiking,
